Real Madrid is a TV Show of Summer reruns. Yuck.

A few summers ago, at the height of Florentino Perez’s powers, I wrote a few posts about the excitement of a new era. However, I also saw the signs of treadmill wear & tear – the looming”bust” after the bubble burst. Sticker shock therapy loomed.

Then came Mou, but I also saw some conflict. On the one hand, I hoped that Valdano’s attacking tendencies could serve as a counterweight to Mourinho’s defensive preferences. But, in the end, Perez didn’t want to mediate between the two personalities and sided with Mou. Is that a good thing? Well, his track record for success speaks for itself. Will wins add up? Yes.

But not sexiness. At least in the transfer market. This summer will be devoid of sexiness at Real Madrid. Instead, we will welcome a wave of German-Turks, or “Turmans” as they are known in some parts. These parts. Oddly, this brings to mind the Schuster-era purchases of Dutch players (that led to several La Liga trophies).

I understand the sporting element and respect Mou, but still penned a lament at the always excellent Sport is a TV Show. Read here. And weep.
