The Best Part About Blogging: The Nonstop Bloggery

Remember back in the day when Bernd Schuster coached Madrid and I blogged recaps in Espanol? Me neither. The point is, a long time is a long time. Several years. I followed La Liga before this latest round of debt-deficit-twin power-spending drew the world’s attention, and, when the bubble bursts, I am not walking away from my underwater mortgage. It’s not that my credit score worries me. It’s sheer and utter madness. Despite the coming sale-off and decline in elite talent, I will continue to salivate over Madrid-Barcelona clashes. And then some.

So, on the eve of the greatest run of Madrid-Barcelona encontrazos in awhile, I remind you that this is a blog. This is not a newspaper. Nor a magazine. I don’t have an editor all over my ass, screaming for the latest Messi-goals-per-minute-compared-to-Puskas article. I blog when I want to blog. I blog about what I want to blog about. Does your Google Reader get lonely? WELL TOO BAD. I’m as bad as I want to be. And you like it. And you know you like it.

Like an encore performance of “One More Time” at a Daft Punk concert, history repeats itself. Semana Santa is upon us. In Nicaragua, one can purchase 25 mangoes for less than one American dollar. Things have gotten hot in South Texas, but nada compared to Managua. Thus, I will be chilling with family way down south for the next few weeks. With nary a computer in sight.

What will you do? Well, first you will experience denial. You’ll tweet me. You’ll comment on an old post. You’ll refresh and refresh your Google Reader or Bloglines or whatever. Then, after a few days, your eye will start to twitch. You will be more snappy with loved ones. Then you’ll experience the urge to splurge, reliving the forever ago Pusky haunting, the historic first award win, the unusual interview, and the recent PuffHo fiasco.

Hold onto your Kleenex – this is not some trip down memory lane before this bright star collapses into a black hole. I’m still wary of all the dark matter floating about the blogosphere after FreeDarko (sigh) shut its doors for good. I will be back in time hopefully for the second leg of the Champions League tie. And we draw ever closer to June 1st, a day that will live in infamy. Except that now June 7th seems a more likely date for my book’s publication.

In the meantime, enjoy this historical piece I wrote on the 1969 Kansas City Spurs’ NASL championship…and subsequent disappearance. I can only pray to achieve similar notoriety before getting wiped off the face of the planet….

Hasta luego!
