Mark - I think you bring up a good point about clubs already covering every inch, but in the US baseball and basketball sides relocate to cities with minor league teams and affiliates. I think there is a cultural unease with the concept of a team uprooting and moving, and your "castle remark" rings true. Could you see your own town/city accept a team with open arms like in the states?

Jason - let's keep the ad hominem pistol pointed squarely at the 'pecho' of this blog's proprietor, and he alone. Yes I just codeswitched to Spanish for the sake of alliteration. So shoot me.

[...] As English football looks more and more at the model of profitable American sports for guidance on how to structure a league, futfanatico quite rightly brings up the ugly spector of the heart of the model: franchising. [...]

Whilst there are many benefits to the American system that could work in England, relocation of franchises is one that wouldn't.

Firstly, the US has enough large cities to support this. England doesn't.

Second, the spread of professional clubs is far greater in England, leaving virtually no areas unsupported.

We did have the precedent of Wimbledon/MK Dons, but that was a one-off.

An Englishman's home is his castle, and the same applies to an English football club.
