So ESPN’s reception in the UK did not impress. At least according to the Guardian’s Martin Kelner. As per usual, the excellent Sports Hernia blog predicted this exact scenario.
ESPN, sadly, has become the McDonald’s of television franchises. Rather than offer local variety, the top-down/streamlined production is designed with one intent: to not offend white Anglo-Saxan protestant families. And of course ESPN must purchase all rights to suffocate the competition. Thus, with no alternatives, you must drive your mini-van full of young children to the ESPN channel, ordering happy meal after happy meal after happy meal. Enjoy!
It is sad that such bland production surrounded an exciting game. Nevertheless, mad props to Mr. Kelner for uncovering the cool nugget of truth of the week: Ces Fabregas was born the same day the Toffees last won the Premiership, May 4, 1987.
